At the start of the summer holiday we wrote a list of places we’d like to go and things we’d like to do. Having recently moved to Dorset, there was and is so much to explore and with four of us in the house, we each had places we wanted to go. Being a keen photographer, I’d done some research on good photography spots and it quickly became apparent that Portland Bill Lighthouse was a popular choice so that was top of my list.

After a failed trip on one day (I ended up having a nap and by the time I woke up, it was too late to go), we made it to the lighthouse, albeit with some resistance from the eldest child who deemed it a boring place to go! It was, in actual fact, far from boring. He may deny it if you ask him, but he did have a brilliant time.

We had great fun scrambling over rocks and exploring the area around the lighthouse. The layout of the land is pretty cool with rocks that are a mix of quarried stone and natural rocks formations. The other thing I found pretty cool was finding pools of crystallised sea salt. We had ice creams and scones at the cafe, watched a horse riding school group pass by and even saw a seal.

It’s been so long since we’ve had an adventure like this and I loved it!
