Dear Mummy

It’s been three years since I told you what a marvellous job you are doing and since then you’ve added another child to your brood.

You’ve been parenting two children for almost three years now; It’s a struggle and a few weeks ago you reached a bit of a breaking point. So, I think you could do with hearing what a marvellous job you’re still doing now you have two little children in your care as well as balancing life’s responsibilities.

A messy house is a lived in home;
Dirty dishes means mouths fed;
Clothes in the laundry basket show signs of adventures had;
Life is being lived.

These days won’t last for ever and while they are hard, they will go quickly. Remember you are teaching, forming, loving small humans and nurturing them to become decent human beings. At the moment they demand a lot from you and it is A LOT!

But, as you sit with the sofa pulled apart, your youngest boy with a firefighter helmet on and your eldest using a stethoscope, marvel at the innocence of childhood and the joy that children find in the simplest of things. Take note. Try doing the same. Take life a little less seriously, don’t overthink things and laugh a little more.

Yes, you are tired and yes, you have a lot on your plate. No, your children do not eat their veggies and no, they do not always listen and no, you’re youngest has not nailed potty training. But what’s the use in stressing and worrying, it does not add to your day, neither does it ‘fix’ anything. This season will pass and one day you will have more energy; one day your boys will eat their veggies (even if they’ve grown up and left home before they do) and one day your youngest will nail using the potty.

Give yourself grace, give yourself love and allow yourself to rest.

Motherhood is a rollercoaster of a journey but the best one you have embarked on. Hang on in there, you are doing a marvellous job!
