Autumn

Changing colours; cooler, cosier days; vibrant colours and low light – all the things that come with summer turning into autumn. Last autumn, our immune systems took a battering and we didn’t see much outside the four walls of our home. However, this year, we’ve been able to get outside a lot more and appreciate those things listed in the opening sentence. While it’s more of a faff to get out of the door in Autumn, what with putting on coats, socks, wellies, hats for three people, I have loved what Autumn has brought me photographically.

There is something about the coast in the Autumn/Winter months that I love – the sunsets somehow seem more vibrant with the stormy seas and the evening the following photos were taken was no exception. The sun had been shining all afternoon and the sunset was beautiful but it wasn’t long before the rain came. I cannot tell you the joy I got from taking these photos on this evening.

Trying to get a shot of these two both looking at the camera was near impossible, however these slightly more candid shots are much more my style.

I borrowed my Dad’s big zoom lens for the next photo. It was taken on a very wet, windy, wild Wednesday afternoon. I decided to drive down to the seafront and try taking some shots of the waves crashing against the harbour wall. I’m so happy with this photo and the best part is that it was taken from the comfort of the driver’s seat of the car thanks to the zoom lens.

These last two were taken at the Hafod, a wonderful place to go in Autumn. I’ve been wanting to try some long exposure stuff somewhere other than the sea and this waterfall provided a great subject to practice. It’s also confirmed that I’d love to go Brecon and photograph the waterfalls there.

And that concludes my Autumnal photos for this year. I’m already looking forward to next year!
