The Time We Made a Dinosaur Forest

About a month before my eldest boy turned 3 he (rather stereotypically) became very interested in dinosaurs. We couldn’t go for a walk or even to bed without there being some sort of dinosaur chasing us. Anyway, one Wednesday morning we headed up to a local beauty spot – Bwlch Nant y Arian – for a walk. T loves to ride his bike around the lake so the bike came with us and we started on our walk. One of the main attractions of Bwlch Nant y Arian is the feeding of the Red Kites, which in summer happens at 3pm daily and in Winter, 2pm. On this particular day, we were there too early but we parked up the pram by the Kite Hide (a great view to watch the feeding of these amazing birds of prey from) and explored the little bit of woodland leading to the hide. It was there that I had, what I thought was a brilliant idea. As we saw bits of fallen fur/pine tree on the ground, I asked T if he wanted to collect some woodland debris to take home and make a dinosaur forest. With great enthusiasm he said yes. So that’s what we did. The remainder of our walk around the lake was spent collecting sticks, bits of moss and pine tree and pine cones. When we got home, we got a plastic container from the kitchen, filled it up with our woodland collection and placed some dinosaurs inside the ‘forest’ before taking it outside and playing with it. The boys loved it.
