For the longest time, I have wanted to set up some sensory play for my little boy. Before becoming a mum, I thought this was something I would do a lot of – you know the kind of thing you see on Pinterest with Tuff Trays and toy dinosaurs with sand and pebbles. But alas, I’m two years into being a mum and there isn’t a tuff tray in sight and I have not set up sensory play of this kind. In fact I’m more of a hands-off parent when it comes to play and I’m all for encouraging Toby to play independently.
But one Wednesday afternoon when watching Toby play with his diggers and after weeks of thinking he could do with some sand to play with them in, I decided to create a very simple set up using three ingredients from the kitchen cupboard- crushed up weetabix, lentils and oats – and a Tupperware tub.
We took it outside so the mess stayed out of the house (or at least the majority stayed outside – we definitely had to hoover up weetabix, lentils and oats!) and Toby played. He loved it! And of course, I loved capturing him playing on my camera š·
