The week began 15th March 2020. Coronavirus was on the brink of breakout in the UK and my husband and father-in-law travelled to Portugal to visit my brother-in-law, leaving my son and I at home in Ceredigion. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon when I dropped my husband off at his dad’s house so the minute they left for the airport, I bundled my almost 10 month old and my beloved camera into the car and headed for my favourite place in the world – Tresaith. On arriving at said destination, T was asleep in his car seat so rather than wake him (who wakes a sleeping baby!?) I waited. I sat and scrolled my social media feeds, I put the baby-carrier on ready to place him in it once he woke, I took a few photos of him sleeping. I waited. Eventually he woke up and we headed down to the beach.
I always get so excited when I step foot onto the sand and this day was no exception. The sun was positioned just behind the cliff and cast a gorgeous golden light over the village. The tide was out just far enough for us to walk around the rocks to see the waterfall and after all the rain that we’d had, it was spectacularly full.
The following day we headed to Aberporth and spent the afternoon there, sitting on the beach and then walked part of the cliff path between Aberporth and Tresaith.
As the news headlines continued to get more gloomy, I remember looking at T who was just so full of joy and smiles about life, without a care in the world (unless he was hungry, then he became hangry!) but on the whole, such a joyful boy. I kinda wished I could be him and be completely oblivious to what was going on in the rest of the world.
Our last adventure of the week – little did we know it would be our last outing for quite some time – was to Llangrannog. The men had landed back in the UK and so I was expecting them back at some point late afternoon. After spending the morning in my father-in-law’s garden we decided to go out to kill time while waiting for the men to return home. That makes it sound like I didn’t really want to go out but I did – and I’m so glad we did. T and I had a lovely walk on the beach and to the top of the cliff. One my favourite things about the Welsh West coast is all the beachy coves and jagged rocks – something that the area around Aberystwyth seems to be lacking! I had fun photographing the view. Back on the beach, I let T explore the pebbles and the drift wood – he loved it.
It was a great week; T and I went on more outings than we normally do and I’m so glad we did before lockdown was announced two days later. I hope you are staying home and staying safe and I hope you enjoyed seeing these photos and seeing something different to the 4 walls of your home 🙂
Much love, Bethan xx
